“Something for the Weekend Sir?”

Well, sorry for no soundtrack last weekend but I was busy working on becoming an international author. This is easily one of my all time favourite soundtracks – Band Of Brothers (ManCry review here). So put your feet up and enjoy some great music. Whatever you are doing – I wish you a  great weekend!Try fit in a ManCry if you can!

Of course I have to include the fantastic Katherine Jenkins version of the main theme. Superb stuff

And finally here’s a little treat – The ending of Band of Brothers – including the famous Winters speech ending. Emotional stuff. Here is a little fact for you –

When I came back from my tour of Iraq in 2005 – I went for a big meal with my family and friends to welcome me back safely. I stood up and made a speech saying thank you to everyone. I ended it by saying  ” Well I can’t put it any better than as Captain Winters said ” Were you a hero in the war? No but I served with a company of heroes.” Cheers to all the lads I served with . Truly unforgettable moments!

In time for the memorial weekend (11th Nov) I thought I would share this. Beautiful music from Band of Brothers performed by Katherine Jenkins “Requiem for a Soldier” . Moving Lyrics below. Thank you to all to the servicemen – They  sacrified their today, so we could have our tomorrow. RIP

Requiem for a Soldier

You never lived to see
What you gave to me
One shining dream of hope and love
Life and liberty

With a host of brave unknown Soldiers
For your company, you will live forever
Here in our memory

In fields of sacrifice
Heroes paid the price
Young men who died for old men’s wars
Gone to paradise

We are all one great band of brothers
And one day you’ll see we can live together
When all the world is free

I wish you’d lived to see
All you gave to me
Your shining dream of hope and love
Life and liberty

We are all one great band of brothers
And one day you’ll see – we can live together
When all the world is free

Also I found this. This really got my lip going : Hymn to the fallen – old proud men with their medals – how proud I am of them.

Something for the British :

Everyone in the Army has seen this and almost everyone has it in their DVD collection. Absolutely amazing film that really captures the grit and grim of the war . I broke into tears at the end of the film with  “tell me  I’ve lead a good life”. A truly moving piece of cinema that will  be seen by many future generations. As most of you know,  Tom Hanks and Spielberg later went on to make Band of Brothers and The Pacific.

Memorable film quote  “Earn this”

**Spoilers** Here’s the final battle scene with the”earn this” quote

and “tell me I’ve led a good life” ending to the film. Literally wiped tears away watching this (again).

Unbelievable soundtrack : Enjoy!

*‘**Updated*** New trailers added

Well we have already covered Band of Brothers so we might aswell mention The Pacific . From the creators of BoB this series will no doubt be just as promising. Coming early 2010 – mark your calenders.

“Pacific” is an upcoming World War II miniseries produced by HBO and Dreamworks and is the successor to HBO’s mega-hit, Band of Brothers. It is scheduled for a television release on HBO in March 2010. “Pacific” is based on the books “With the Old Breed,” by Eugene Sledge, which was hailed by historian Paul Fussell as “one of the finest memoirs to emerge from any war,” and “Helmet for My Pillow,” by Robert Leckie (recipient of the Marine Corps Combat Correspondents Annual Award), as well as original interviews conducted by the filmmakers and Hugh Ambrose. Continuing the World War II oral history work begun by his father Stephen E. Ambrose (author of the book “Band of Brothers”), Hugh Ambrose serves as a consultant on the miniseries

The budget is rumored to be between 150-200 million dollars making it the most expensive television production ever produced and certainly the most expensive ever made in Australia!

The production will be based at Melbourne Central City Studios in Melbourne, Victoria, with filming to take place in Melbourne, where U.S. troops camped in 1943, and Far North Queensland. The HBO Films production has collaborated with Film Victoria, the Pacific Film & Television Commission, Ausfilm and the New South Wales Film & TV Office. Filming has finished will be shown in 2010.

Well i know this isnt a film per say, but its simply has to be in the ManCry blog. This is one of the best war series I’ve ever seen. Originally aired on HBO in the USA and BBC in the UK this 10 part TV series captured many peoples hearts. You’ll find this in most mens DVD collection and is usually watched at least once a year. The series follow the 101st airport into battle from the beginning of the war until the company is disbanded. With real life interviews at the beginning of every episode, you immediately find yourself wanting to know who will survive. Excellent special effects and well written, this series will no doubt stand the test of time.

Memorable quote “Were you a hero in the war? No I served with a company of heroes” (ummmmmm)

On a personal note , just to put in perspective how good this series is. I spent about a year trying to convince a family member to borrow my box set. He stated on several occasions that he never watches TV and hasnt got time for films. I finally convinced him to watch at least the first episode and then if he didnt like it, he could give it straight back.

Weeks later, he turned up for dinner with the boxset in his hand and said “Thankyou so much for lending this too me, its one of the best things ive ever seen, really! Unbelievable, I broke into tears thank you”

I rest my case your honour, no further questions!
